Greater Jerusalem Baptist Church was organized and established in September 1973 under the leadership of Rev. William H. Folks. What began with a small group of faithful believers meeting in the home of Brother David and Sister Francis Felder soon grew into a congregation committed to serving God and the East New York community.
Through prayer, faith, and perseverance, the church found a home at 2377 Pitkin Avenue in Brooklyn, New York. Over the decades, Greater Jerusalem Baptist Church has stood as a beacon of hope, worship, and spiritual growth for countless families.
Today, we continue our mission of preaching the Gospel, making disciples, serving our community, and sharing the love of Jesus Christ with all who enter our doors.
To glorify God through worship, discipleship, fellowship, evangelism, and community service while leading people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
To be a beacon of hope in East New York and beyond, transforming lives through the power of God's Word and demonstrating Christ's love through worship, outreach, and service.
Overseer Anthony A. Nisbett is a native of St. Kitts, West Indies. His Christian foundation was established through the Young Baptist Fellowship at Antioch Baptist Church, where he served in Vacation Bible School, Sunday School, and the church choir.
After moving to the United States in 1983, he faithfully served in multiple ministries and was ordained as a Deacon in 1991. Answering God's call to preach, he delivered his initial sermon in 1999 and was ordained into the Gospel ministry in 2002.
In April 2006, Reverend Nisbett was called to serve as Pastor of Greater Jerusalem Baptist Church. Since then, the church has experienced growth in ministry, worship, leadership development, and community impact. Under his leadership, new ministries have been established, members have been discipled, and the church has continued its commitment to serving God and the East New York community.
On July 30, 2022, Pastor Nisbett was elevated to District Overseer by the National Conference of Effective Ministries. He is married to Elder Mary S. Nisbett and remains passionate about preaching and teaching the Word of God. His life scripture is Romans 5:8: "But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."
